in fall of 1907, baskerville came iran missionary. took position in american memorial school, missionary school, in tabriz. there taught english, history, , geometry mixed classes of boys , girls , served tennis coach , riding instructor. directed student production of merchant of venice.


in spring of 1909, during constitutional revolution of iran, decided raise volunteer force defend constitutional democracy. despite attempts discourage him american consul in tabriz, william f. doty, led hundred volunteers attempting defend besieged city against qajar royalist troops fighting mohammad ali shah. baskerville shot , killed sniper while leading group of student soldiers break siege. 24 years old.

he has been quoted saying, difference between me , these people place of birth, , not big difference. baskerville s funeral attended thousands, eulogized iranian patriots. buried in christian armenian cemetery in tabriz. tabriz fell besiegers 5 days after baskerville s death.
