Early life Al Jardine

alan charles jardine born in lima, ohio, family moved san francisco , later hawthorne, california. @ hawthorne high school, befriended fellow football player brian wilson , watched brian , brother carl wilson singing @ school assembly. after attending ferris state university during 1960-61 academic year, jardine registered student @ el camino college in 1961. there, reunited brian , first posited idea of forming band 2 worked through harmony ideas in college s music room. jardine s primary musical interest folk, , learned banjo , guitar play folk music. when beach boys formed @ wilson s home, first tried push band toward folk, overruled in favor of rock n roll.


an all-rounder on string instruments, jardine played stand-up bass on beach boys first recording, song surfin (1961). following brief departure band in 1962, dabbled career in air industry in los angeles. jardine rejoined beach boys in summer of 1963 @ brian wilson s request , worked alongside guitarist david marks band until october 1963, when marks quit beach boys after altercation band s manager, murry wilson.
