honeyeaters prefer flit perch perch in outer foliage, stretching or sideways or hanging upside down @ need. have highly developed brush-tipped tongue, frayed , fringed bristles soak liquids readily. tongue flicked rapidly , repeatedly flower, upper mandible compressing liquid out when bill closed. kauaʻi ʻōʻō last species survive. last seen in 1987.
