description

the omnimover system created roger e. broggie , bert brundage provide ride system capable of providing passengers motion picture type experience controlling line of sight. concept allows designers able place infrastructure elements of attraction, such lighting , projectors, behind vehicles without concern having illusions of attraction revealed riders. system consists of chain of vehicles operating on track, hidden beneath floor. chain of vehicles maintains constant motion @ specific speed (usually 2 feet or 60 centimeters per second) throughout entire course of attraction. facilitate boarding , disembarking vehicles, conveyor belt moving @ approximately same speed ride vehicles parallels track @ loading , unloading areas. passengers step moving belt vehicle or vice versa.


one of features differentiates system other ride systems ability of vehicle rotated predetermined orientation. in addition main ride rails, each vehicle has 2 control rails attached wheel. 1 controls swiveling allowing vehicle face in direction @ point on track. other allows vehicle tilt in relation inclining , declining portions of track. omnimovers such adventure thru inner space @ disneyland manufactured arrow development, later systems such buzz lightyear attractions being manufactured sansei yusoki. previous ride conveyor systems (such futurama @ 1939 new york world s fair , ford s magic skyway @ 1964 new york world s fair) did not allow individual ride vehicles rotate.


two omnimover systems have been in continuous use since debut have featured different attractions:



buzz lightyear s space ranger spin @ tomorrowland in magic kingdom uses omnimover ride system of 2 former attractions. first attraction occupy space if had wings, sponsored eastern airlines 1972 1987, when dropped sponsorship. ride known if fly until closed in january 1989. 6 months later, ride system reused , transformed delta dreamflight, sponsored delta air lines until 1996. ride vehicles reprogrammed in 1989 alter viewing direction. in 1996, ride became known take flight, , closed on january 9, 1998. buzz lightyear s space ranger spin uses same omnimover ride system of if had wings/delta dreamflight, except having new third generation vehicles can rotated riders angle shoot @ various targets. variant , used little mermaid: ariel s undersea adventure use electric motors on individual vehicles rotate, instead of fixed control rails. space ranger spin uses 2 of speed tunnels if had wings.
the seas nemo & friends used home living seas, used different attraction theme , different omnimover vehicle design.

although journey imagination figment in epcot omnimover basis track, original incarnation of ride continuously moving vehicle system.
