on may 16, signed cleveland browns two-year deal. on september 18, in relief of then-starter brandon weeden, out thumb injury, browns skipped on second string jason campbell , named him starting quarterback week 3 game against minnesota vikings. threw 321 yards 3 touchdowns , 3 interceptions in team s first win of season. announced later in week hoyer browns starting quarterback week 4 against rival cincinnati bengals, weeden remained out thumb injury. hoyer led browns win, completing 25-of-38 passes 269 yards , 2 touchdowns, along throwing no interceptions in 17–6 victory. next day on september 30, hoyer named starter third straight game, thursday night football vs buffalo bills. despite being named starter 3 straight games, hoyer not declared official starter remainder of 2013 season cleveland head coach rob chudzinski, referred situation week-to-week thing. later added that, if hoyer continued exceed expectations, maintain starting position. however, hoyer sustained acl tear in thursday night game versus buffalo bills ending promising season.
