Raga Alapana Carnatic music



an alapana, called ragam, exposition of raga or tone – slow improvisation no rhythm, raga acts basis of embellishment. in performing alapana, performers consider each raga object has beginnings , endings , consists somehow of sequences of thought.


the performer explore ragam , touch on various nuances, singing in lower octaves first, gradually moving higher octaves, while giving hint of song performed.


theoretically, ought easiest type of improvisation, since rules few, in fact, takes skill sing pleasing, comprehensive (in sense of giving feel ragam ) and, importantly, original raga alapana.
