chappell’s diverse background , experience led him work wyle integrated science & engineering @ nasa jsc, has been employed since 2008. helping define , execute research needed optimize human performance in next-generation spacesuits , eva systems. part of job, has led , taken part in studies in different exploration analog environments including high arctic, parabolic flight aircraft, , partial gravity simulators @ jsc. major contributor design of mockups , procedures used during neemo 14.
chappell nasa astronaut candidate interviewee in 2009. in may 2010, chappell became aquanaut through participation in joint nasa-noaa, neemo 14 (nasa extreme environment mission operations) project, exploration research mission held in aquarius, world s undersea research laboratory. prior mission, chappell quoted saying looking forward working team other crewmembers during neemo 14 nasa take next steps push forward frontier of space exploration.
