these detectors require development of new advanced electronics, smart control software, extreme cooling techniques , novel materials. sron develops new generation of detectors, , necessary read-out , control electronics, international missions in submillimeter , far-infrared areas. example, such extremely sensitive detectors needed in spica/ safari can learn more protoplanetary discs , formation of planets. spica/ safari sron working on transition edge sensors (tes).
