the sponsoring agency may activate , dispatch teams in order gather or respond intelligence incident. teams may dispatched affected neighborhoods, or organized support operations. cert members may augment support staff @ incident command post or emergency operations center. additional teams may created guard morgue, locate supplies , food, convey messages , other cert teams , local authorities, , other duties on as-needed basis identified team leader.

in short term, certs perform data gathering, locate mass-casualties requiring professional response, or situations requiring professional rescues, simple fire-fighting tasks (for example, small fires, turning off gas), light search , rescue, damage evaluation of structures, triage , first aid. in longer term, certs may assist in evacuation of residents, or assist setting neighborhood shelter.

while responding, cert members temporary volunteer government workers. in areas, (such california, hawaii , kansas) registered, activated cert members eligible worker s compensation on-the-job injuries during declared disasters.
