history

in 1299, rmeish directly under mamluk rule.

ottoman era

rmeish under ottoman rule until 1920. rmeish involved in many wars , battles through history. important ones are:

in 1797, viceroy of acre ahmad pasha el jazar demolished , destroyed village including church there. reasons rmeish supported prince bashir el chahabi against him, helped napoleon in battle against acre , afraid, rmeish being christian village in area, might encourage other christian villages rebel against him.

ahmad basha burned down church including records kept inside. people of rmeish refused go village until ahmad basha died in 1804 when went , rebuilt church , village.

in 1824, leader of rmeish youssef daher el choufani led village victory on viceroy of acre abdallah el darnadli.
in 1829, rmeish supported prince bashir el chahabi in battle against sanour.
in 1839, rmeish fought side side shiite of neighbouring villages against egyptian army ended withdrawal of egyptian army after suffering heavy losses.
in 1840, daher el choufani led rmeish in battle against egyptian army.

when ottoman empire entered war, forced who’s age between 18 , 60 fight in turkish army. people rmeish forced fight in bulgaria, istanbul , suez canal in egypt. between 20 , 30 never came war , no 1 knew them till today.

1916 famine

lebanon

a petition sent villages in south lebanon reconciliation conference in paris in 1919 asking rmeish , other villages included within lebanon. following petition:

call on agreement , unanimity we, residents of tyre district of shiites , christians of forty thousands included in state of greater lebanon following reasons: first, shiites of people form sidon, tyre, marjayoun, el rihan, eklim el kharoub , hermel want join nation. second, christians of of lebanese origin , ancestors came north south. day relatives , want join them.

in 1920, ain ebel attacked hundreds of muslim militias. leaders of ain ebel , rmeish agreed fight side side against attackers. attackers attacked in large numbers defenders not resist attack , forced leave villages palestine.

in 1920, rmeish included in known state of greater lebanon.

the calamity of 1948

rmeish hosted in homes , church between 1000 , 1500 palestinians refugees displaces bloody events took place between palestinians , jews.

once realised going country not going happen in near future, palestinians started leave rmeish @ start of 1951 heading beirut , other parts of lebanon.

the deportation of 1985

in 1985, residents of east saida deported toward south. 120 families deported rmeish. half of these families leave rmeish within next 2 months , others stayed , lived in rmeish until day.
