1990s
the concept of women s cricket first introduced in pakistan sisters shaiza , sharmeen khan in 1996. subsequently met court cases , death threats. government refused them permission play india in 1997 , ruled women forbidden playing sports in public due religious issues.
however, pakistan first appeared in women s cricket in 1997 , playing against new zealand , australia. lost 3 1 day international matches on tour, still invited take part in women s cricket world cup later year in india. lost 5 matches in tournament , finished last, out of eleven teams in competition. following year, pakistan toured sri lanka , played 3 1 day international matches, losing of matches , played in first test match, lost.
2000s
in 2000, pakistan toured ireland 5 match 1 day international series against ireland. lost test match innings inside 2 days , 1 day international series 4–0, 1 match interrupted rain. first international win, in 19th match, came against netherlands in 7 match 1 day international series @ home ground in 2001, series won 4–3. form did not continue 6 1 day international tour of sri lanka in january 2002 though , again lost 6 matches.
in 2003, pakistan travelled netherlands take part in 2003 iwcc trophy, inaugural edition of called world cup qualifier. finished fourth in tournament, victories against japan , scotland, missing out on qualification 2005 world cup. tournament marred schism between pakistan women s cricket control association , pakistan cricket board. iwcc did not recognise pakistan cricket board governing body of women s cricket in pakistan , court cases brought in pakistan. pakistan cricket board announced not sending team tournament , no other team should allowed represent country in competition. problem has since been overcome international cricket council requirement women s associations , men s associations unified under 1 single governing body.
2004 saw west indies tour pakistan, playing 7 1 day international matches , test match. test match drawn , west indies won 1 day international series 5–2, 2 victories pakistan first against test playing nation.
in 2005, pakistan cricket board established women s wing oversee cricket affairs under pakistan cricket board s control , unite conflicts between various associations. first international event when indian under 21 team toured pakistan, becoming first indian women s side tour country. paved way pakistan host second women s asia cup in december 2005/january 2006. lost games however, finishing last in 3 team tournament. tournament featured first match between indian , pakistani women s cricket teams.
early in 2007, pakistan squad toured south africa , played in 5 match, 1 day international series. during year, pakistan awarded host icc women s world cup qualifiers in 8 teams scheduled participate. of arrangements completed when unfortunately event postponed due political instability , moved south africa. pakistan women team qualified icc women world cup defeating ireland, zimbabwe, scotland , netherlands. qualified tournament after defeating hong kongteam in 3 match series in pakistan in september 2006.
in pakistan, views towards women cricket have softened considerably since introduction. cricket seen improvement women s rights; although female players have follow professional rule , behave in appropriate manner in public.
