the tardini idea of ennio tardini, graduate in law , club president 1921 1923, although of work political passion sport. in january 1922, authorities in parma granted parma f.b.c. sum of ₤10,000 , tardini instigated national competition design of new stadium in february 1922. raise further funds, tardini sold plot of land £163,000 municipal administration. club had had no fixed home. in september 1922, parma s committee admitted 2 projects consideration: 1 atanasio soldati , 1 riccardo bartolomasi, both architects working in parma. soldati s plans looked architectural simplicity classical greek features, while bartolomasi opted more convenient , modern approach.


neither candidate had work realised. architect ettore leoni submitted final draft new stadium, drawing influence french , german stadia – lyon s stade de gerland in particular – while celebrating history of parma. on 26 december 1922, ground broken on construction of stadium , first stone laid. municipal contribution raised £100,000 because of public nature of project. tardini died shortly after, on 16 august 1923, stadium – called stadio municipale – named in honour. during 1970s, capacity of stadium stood @ approximately 20,000. stadium featured cycle track converted clay athletics track in 1935, in turn built on @ end of 1980s. modern floodlight system installed azienda elettrica comunale in 1954. tribuna petitot – main grandstand – restructured municipal authorities between 1985 , 1990 reinforced concrete, club beginning outgrow stadium , external expansion had become impractical residential buildings occupied surrounding area.
