mdot maintains listing of historic bridges in state; along 31, department has listed 4 structures. in downtown charlevoix, us-31–island lake outlet bridge carries highway on channel dredged between lake michigan , round lake connects lake charlevoix. built 1947 through 1949, fifth bridge @ location. double-leaf bascule bridge. in petoskey, highway crosses bear creek on concrete girder bridge built in 1930. @ 265 feet (81 m) in length, fourth longest such bridge in michigan. in manistee, manistee river spanned double-leaf bascule bridge built in 1933. north of hart in pentwater township, 270-foot-long (82 m) 31–pentwater river bridge long-span steel bridge crosses pentwater river. listed on national register of historic places on december 20, 1999. carries oceana drive along former routing of 31.
