following partial collapse of tower in 1716, medieval church rebuilt in palladian style george dance elder during 1736–40, soaring steeple 192 feet tall—an imitation of christopher wren s magnificent steeple on st mary-le-bow in cheapside—and giant four-columned, pedimented tuscan portico. inside church, entablature supported giant doric columns. dance architect of mansion house. many original 18th-century fixtures , fittings remain, including font, pulpit, communion table, clock, organ case, bread cupboards , commandment boards. lit gaslight in 1817, first in london.

bells
whilst church has had bells many centuries, evidenced inclusion in oranges , lemons nursery rhyme, current ring of 12 bells (plus sharp second allow lighter ring of 8 bells using 1, sharp second , 3–8 ring true octave), hung change ringing, dates 1994 when bells cast john taylor & co, bellfounders of loughborough.

tracker organ
the organ built richard bridge in 1756, , retains original wooden pipes. 1 of few surviving examples of tracker organ without pedals. in need of restoration.
