bess of hardwick died @ 5 pm on saturday 13 february 1608, aged 81. on 16 february body placed in vault in saints church, derby, parish church of city (demolished 1723 , rebuilt, since 1927 derby cathedral), elaborate monument effigy survives, having been saved former demolished building. stories of body lying in state weeks in great chamber @ hardwick mythical.
