the day after result, hasina said boycott should not mean there question of legitimacy. people participated in poll , other parties participated. however, said offered zia role in new government. look, tried best, told you, offered ministry, offered share power our opposition. have done as can didn t respond. if realise made mistake in not participating in election, perhaps may come forward discuss or make offer. if come forward discuss us, have leave these terrorist activities behind because doing absolutely killing people, killing police, killing innocent people. information minister hasanul haq inu added turnout did not matter: important people defied violence. bnp vice president shamsher chowdhury said low turnout indicated desire new election. government must declare election null , void , need new election organised non-party government. government should not waste more time.

in aftermath of election, violence continued , government continued crackdown on opposition. police carried out raids , arrested opposition leaders. other opposition leaders , members went hiding, citing harassment authorities. january 21, government had arrested 7,015 activists , leaders of opposition, , placed bounty of 100,000 taka ($1,300) on heads of other protest leaders. many of protesters had destroyed vehicles , blockaded roads, , 29 people had died in unrest.
this led 2015 bangladeshi political crisis.
