hayes joined yamaha factory racing team in 2009 , competed aboard yamaha yzf-r1 in ama pro racing superbike championship, winning 7 races en route second place in championship. raced yamaha yzf-r6 in daytona 200.
the 2010 season saw hayes fulfill lifelong goal of becoming ama pro superbike champion. in process, won yamaha’s first superbike title in 19 years, scoring 7 race victories , earning multiple bonus points pole positions , laps led on season.
hayes won second consecutive superbike championship in 2011. captured 7 poles, 3 wins, , 9 podium finishes in defending championship. finished off podium twice on course of entire season, , won championship on final lap of final race.
hayes made motogp debut @ 2011 valencian grand prix riding tech 3 yamaha yzr-m1 replacement rider injured countryman colin edwards. hayes led wet morning warmup session, , then, went on finish seventh in race.
in 2012, hayes won third consecutive superbike championship, , did in record-setting fashion, rewriting ama pro road racing history in several categories. set new record superbike wins in single season 16, , set new record consecutive superbike wins in single season 10. in addition, hayes tied record superbike poles in single season 10, , had 7 perfect weekends. in 7 rounds during 2012 season, hayes qualified #1 monster energy/graves/yamaha r1 superbike in pole position, won both superbike races, , led laps in both races.
finishing close second in 2013 ama pro superbike points standings monster energy/graves/yamaha teammate , 2013 superbike champion josh herrin, hayes won 8 races , earned 2 additional podiums. had season sweep in qualifying, earning 8 superbike pole positions, , set new lap record @ new jersey motorsports park.
hayes showed in 2014 #4 on monster energy/graves/yamaha r1 superbike omen. on strength of 7 race wins , 3 second-place finishes out of 11 races season, josh captured fourth ama pro superbike championship. won geico motorcycle superbike shootout championship same year.
in 2015, hayes notched 10 superbike wins during motoamerica’s inaugural season. reached podium in 16 out of 18 races , earned 5 pole positions. teammate cameron beaubier nipped him 4 points 2015 motoamerica superbike title.
in 2016, hayes finished motoamerica season 6 points behind teammate beaubier, , came down final race of season @ new jersey motorsports park decide all.
hayes finished fourth in 2017 motoamerica championship, reaching podium 8 times, included victory @ virginia international raceway.
