while still partnered brother, mcnary began teaching property law @ willamette university college of law in spring of 1899 , courting jessie breyman. in 1908, hired dean replace john w. reynolds. dean, worked enlarge school , secure additional classroom space. recruited prominent local attorneys serve on faculty , increased size of school 4 graduates in 1908 36 in 1913, last year dean. in drive make willamette s law school 1 of top programs on west coast, had re-located leased space in office buildings university campus.


on november 19, 1902, married jessie breyman, daughter of successful salem businessman eugene breyman. jessie died on july 3, 1918, in automobile accident south of newberg on way home salem. had been in oregon attend funeral of mother , returning portland in boise family s car when flipped , crushed her. mcnary spent several days in oregon funeral , returned washington. charles , jessie had no children.
