the station opened in 1882 lynn , fakenham railway, , later became southern terminus of midland , great northern joint railway (mg&n) line melton constable. station became well-used, services cromer , through-carriages range of destinations including peterborough , leicester.


the station badly bombed in baedeker raids of 1942 when main building largely destroyed , thereafter station operated temporary buildings constructed on site. closed passengers on 2 march 1959 along of midland & great northern system, although station remained in use goods traffic until 1969.
