as pleasure of trip, met disappointment, once lay becalmed in tropics, , @ time hatched below during terrific storm. women , children @ night lashed berths, in no other way keep in. furniture rolled , forth endangering limb , life. waves swept deck , reached staterooms... children s voices crying in darkness, mother s voices soothing or scolding, men s voices rising above others, mingled distressing groans , cries of sick help, and, above all, roaring of wind , howling of tempest made scene , feeling indescribable.
