the earliest traces of settlement in bierstadt area date stone age. however, bierstadt first mentioned in historical records, birgidestad , in deed of gift on march 12, 927. town founded irish monks, named after irish national saint, st. brigid. in 11th–12th centuries, (now protestant) church of st. nicholas built. church not oldest existing church in wiesbaden, but, after roman-era heathens wall in downtown wiesbaden, second oldest building of kind in city.
in middle ages, bierstadt came under dominion of nassau, subject strong influences archdiocese of mainz. in wake of reformation, bierstadt came under control of nassau.
after thirty years war, town had 17 inhabitants. efforts @ reconstruction set through fire in 1691. middle of 18th century, bierstadt had 500 residents.
the remains of medieval watchtower, bierstadter warte, located on height between wiesbaden , district. warte part of coat of arms. in 1898, large observation tower, wiesbaden bismarck tower, planned built @ site. temporary wooden tower constructed in 1910, funding permanent structure not obtained. temporary tower demolished in 1918.
during third reich, nazism dominated in bierstadt. on november 9, 1938, bierstadt synagogue, dating 1827, destroyed.
after world war ii, 1800 homes built in bierstadt occupation forces of united states army. aukamm , crestview developments located on northwest , west side of bierstadt, respectively.
