general dwight eisenhower ordered no fraternization between troops , german people. on period of many months, policy loosened, first permitting gis talk german children , allowing them talk adults, both in circumstances.


to impress german people allied opinion of them, strict non-fraternization policy adhered general dwight eisenhower , department of war during world war ii. however, because of pressure state department , congress, policy lifted in stages.


in june 1945, prohibition against speaking german children made less strict. in july, became possible speak german adults in circumstances. in september, policy abandoned in austria , germany.


in earliest stages of occupation, soldiers not allowed pay maintenance child admitted having fathered since considered aiding enemy. marriages between soldiers , austrian women not permitted until january 1946 , german women until december 1946.
