Museum of Science and Industry Elkington Silver Electroplating Works



the site hosted science museum of birmingham museum & art gallery 1951 until closure in 1997. many exhibits moved thinktank, later opened entrance-fee-based exhibition in millennium point in eastside, in september 2001. among famous exhibits move in relocation 1797 smethwick engine, produced famous local industrialist james watt. had been located in town of smethwick, before being relocated birmingham canal navigation workshops @ ocker hill (actually 10 miles away town named tipton) in 1897. however, came museum in 1959 on closure of workshops. moved new museum elkington s own woolrich electrical generator, made in 1844, earliest electrical generator used in industrial process.
