the first portion of irt white plains road line opened on november 26, 1904 branch elevated irt third avenue line north of 149th street 180th street–bronx park in west farms. connected original irt subway on july 10, 1905, , third avenue service ended. transfers given @ 149th street passengers wanted change third avenue, , transfers added between manhattan-bound subway , third avenue line north on july 13 due congestion , confusion @ point. these transfers applied trains continuing in same direction; 1920s, transfer point had become congested. passageway inside fare control opened on june 1, 1927 in triangle bounded 148th street, third avenue, , willis avenue. third avenue line closed on april 28, 1973, ending transfer.



the irt dyre avenue line opened on may 15, 1941. @ first, did not connect directly irt white plains road line, , transfer passageway (used new york, westchester , boston railway when dyre avenue line tracks part of operation) placed inside fare control. direct connection white plains road line north of station opened on may 6, 1957, , old nyw&b station closed.
