the rocky mountain locust occurred in rocky mountains , in of prairie areas, though existed on both sides of rocky mountains. breeding in sandy areas , thriving in hot , dry conditions, guaranteed food supply prairie plants concentrate sugars in stalks in times of drought. movement of locusts assisted low-level jet stream persists through of central north america.
