mokpo station


mokpo station opened may 15, 1913, final destination of honam line , accommodates on 1.2 million annually, cargo shipments.


the station located near yudal mountain, in southwestern part of city. railroad ends inside station, although freight-only line continued on samhakdo, carrying coal industrial factories. because of potential danger, city removed rail extension in 2011.


on april 1, 2004, korea train express advertised three-hour travel time seoul mokpo, however, actual time longer due number of stops along honam line. three-hour travel possible when limiting train 4 stops: seodaejeon, iksan, gwangjusongjeong, , mokpo. however, service has not been available since 2008. currently, there 10 trains yongsan station mokpo, travel time of 195 minutes. railroad has plans improve high-speed honam line, reducing travel time under 100 minutes. there plans develop high-speed rail route between honam , osong, distance of 230.9 km in july 2010, there 2 , 6 scheduled trains mokpo saemaul-ho , mugunghwa-ho, respectively. gwangju station, mugunghwa ho working on having train service twice in day.

the seohaean expressway connects mokpo seoul via 4-hour car ride. muan-gwangju expressway opened in 2008 ease access muan international airport. in 2012, mokpo gwangyang highway opened, connecting eastern , western ends of south jeolla, continuing on busan.


national route 1 planned connect mokpo sineuju in north korea. after korean war, however, route cut off @ imjingak near truce village of panmunjeom. not until 2000 when route 1 extended north korea s second largest city, gaesung.


bus

two companies provide of bus service in local area. since 2005, companies , city council agreed expand number of buses fueled natural gas (ng), following 3-year negotiation. city agreed assist companies 21,000 dollar per bus subsidy each bus equipped ng equipment. of 2006, 32 buses had been retrofitted natural gas equipment. growing suburbs around city created demand additional lines, there conflict between needs of city , profit margin of new lines.

muan international airport airport serving mokpo. previously, mokpo airport operated region s airport. crash of asiana airlines flight 733 in 1993 increased concerns airport, resulting in extending runway 50 meters. however, site still had fundamental drawbacks due common foggy weather , lack of related facilities. korean air abolished gimpo-mokpo route , asiana airlines started slash services in 2004 removal of mokpo-jeju route. air companies announced deficits due high-speed railroad.


the alternative mokpo airport muan international airport, construction delayed many years, leading disappointment among local people. eventually, however, airport constructed, , mokpo airport closed doors in november 8, 2007.

mokpo has 3 harbors: 1 each ferry service, trading , fishing. main harbor used ferry customers , cargoes around nearby islands, while north harbor conducts ferry service nonghyup. additionally, newly built harbor used container shipping china.


over 80 sea-going lines have been available, notably heuksando, hongdo , jeju, ferries linking sinan county. in 2002, first cruise-line shanghai opened operation, however, bankruptcy concerns forced discontinuance of cruise line after 5 months. in july 2004, attempt start cruise route shanghai, newly designed, smaller boat, failed due chinese objections.


the mokpo coastal terminal built during 1980s, government beginning update in 2003. 30bn won, 4-story terminal opened in february 2007. mokpo coastal terminal configured divide coastal international travel.


the newly built harbor in mokpo has seen growing number of cargoes since opened in 2004. harbor set record civil investment in seaport in south korea. currently, sea routes have been established china, japan, thailand, , indonesia municipal support. in january 2011, samsung electronics decided choose mokpo chief exporting harbor merchandise factory in gwangju.
