local railcards

cotswold line railcard

this costs £7.50 year, , gives 34% discounts on standard day singles , off-peak day singles (formerly cheap day singles ) , returns between worcester foregate street , oxford (and intermediate stops). cardholders must aged 16 or over, no co-holders can named, , there no discounts accompanying adults or children. railcard can bought @ staffed station on route. discount not available until 08.44 train worcester , 08.48 train oxford on weekdays, there no weekend restrictions.


dales railcard

this introduced in 1995, , after trial period until 31 august 1995 when price set @ £5.00, cost settled @ £10.00 per year number of years. there subsequent increase £12.00 per year, during 2007 discounted price of £10.00 applies. railcard gives discount of 34% on standard day, cheap day , saver tickets within region of validity. complex area covers:



all journeys between following stations (inclusive): carlisle, brampton, gargrave , wennington
journeys of these stations stations on routes morecambe, bradford forster square , leeds (inclusive) - not via penrith
journeys skipton stations on routes morecambe , brampton (inclusive) - not via penrith

cardholders must aged 16 or over, , no co-holders can named, 4 accompanied children can travel @ 60% discount on standard child fare (subject £1.00 minimum fare). (in years, 2 children travel flat fare of £2.00.) residents in postcode areas within region of validity may apply; however, arrangement between friends of settle–carlisle line user group , train operator northern rail allows members of group buy gold card (a plastic magnetic stripe card integrated circuit chip, rather printed paper card) giving them same benefits railcard. card costs £12.00.


devon & cornwall railcard

this railcard, covering counties of devon , cornwall, introduced on 10 september 2006 replace 2 railcards covered counties separately: devon railcard , cornish railcard. gives discounts holder (who must aged 16 or over) , 1 accompanying adult of 34% on cheap day , saver singles , returns journeys wholly within 2 counties, , 34% on countywide devon day ranger , cornwall day ranger tickets, , line-specific rangers following branch lines: atlantic coast line, looe valley line, maritime line, tamar valley line , tarka line. exception st ives bay line day ranger, discounted 50% when railcard used. 4 children can accompany adult(s) flat fare of £1.00 each point-to-point tickets, or £2.00 day rangers. while array of discounts broadly same available devon railcard, former cornish railcard offered 34% discounts on standard day singles , returns well. these tickets available travel during peak period (before 9.30am). change prompted criticism people travelled not daily @ peak times in cornwall have pay more: although season tickets journeys within cornwall reduced in price 10 september 2006, cost-effective regular travellers (four or 5 weekdays per week).

esk valley railcard

this costs £12.00 per year, , gives discount of 34% on standard day, cheap day , saver tickets in area of validity. covers journeys between whitby , great ayton inclusive, , journeys these stations other stations on line - nunthorpe, gypsy lane, marton , middlesbrough. 34% discount, , accompanying child discount (again subject £1.00 minimum fare), available on tees day ranger ticket, offers unlimited journeys on route in 1 day; , on return tickets on north yorkshire moors railway, preserved railway running grosmont pickering. cardholders must aged 16 or over, , no co-holders can named, 4 accompanied children can travel @ 60% discount on standard child fare (subject £1.00 minimum fare). railcard available residents living in boroughs of stockton-on-tees, middlesbrough , redcar , cleveland , hambleton, scarborough , ryedale districts of north yorkshire. revenue raised through sale of these railcards used esk valley railway development company, not-for-profit organisation runs line community railway , maintain , improve line.


heart of wales line railcard

introduced in may 2000, costs £5.00 1 year, , available residents aged 16 or on of postal districts along line of route, runs swansea shrewsbury. 34% discount available on fares journeys between 2 stations on route. 2 children can accompany cardholder flat fare of £2.00. railcard may purchased @ llandrindod station, or postal application. scheme relaunched , extended on 29 september 2005.


highland railcard

this costs £7.50 per year, , available applicants aged 16 or on live in areas of north , west highlands of scotland - principally iv , kw postal districts. 50% discount available cardholder journeys on following routes, 2 children accompanying cardholder being charged £2.00 flat fare:



the kyle of lochalsh line between inverness , kyle of lochalsh
the far north line between inverness , 2 termini (thurso , wick)
the west highland line between glasgow queen street , 2 termini (oban , mallaig)

railcards issued after application form completed , submitted post or ticket office @ dingwall, fort william, inverness, kyle of lochalsh, mallaig, oban, thurso or wick stations.


the current form of railcard dates 3 january 1999, when previous version covering more restricted geographical area merged former west highland railcard, introduced in 1993.


the original highland railcard scheme appears date 1988, ticket stock (british rail form number br 4599/79) being printed in year, details of subsequent relaunches known. first change happened 1 october 1991, six-month railcard being priced @ £4.00 , giving 34% discount on ticket types journeys between inverness , kyle of lochalsh, thurso , wick. in september 1994, railcard made available free, , 34% discount available on standard child fare 1 accompanying child. 3 january 1999, when west highland railcard integrated it, price became £5.00 , 2 accompanying children travel £2.00 each. price subsequently rose current £7.50 level.


the west highland railcard lasted on 5 years, 1 october 1993 until 3 january 1999, boundaries of validity extended, changed priced free of charge, , areas prospective holders had live in qualify altered. first year, railcard cost £5.00 12 months, , used journeys between mallaig , helensburgh upper, , through tickets on glasgow queen street. fares discounted 34% railcard, , 1 accompanying child travel 34% off child fare. highland railcard, relaunch in september 1994 made card free of charge; route oban included @ same time. british rail form number ticket stock br 4599/145.


pembrokeshire railcard

this costs £5.00 1 year, , available residents (aged 16 or over) of postal districts in pembrokeshire. discounts of 34% available on journeys on routes collectively known west wales line: fishguard harbour, milford haven , pembroke dock branch lines, , common section whitland via carmarthen through swansea. standard day returns receive discount, although tickets bought railcard cannot used on section of heart of wales line between swansea , llanelli. railcards can bought @ haverfordwest , carmarthen stations.


valleys line railcards

on valley lines network in south wales, discounts available 2 railcards:



valleys senior railcard

introduced on 30 may 1999, @ cost of £5.00 1 year, , gives 50% discount on cheap day return fares journeys wholly within valley lines area. there no discounts accompanying passengers. tickets issued status code val-s. february 2000, price reduced £4.00 permanent residents of county boroughs of rhondda cynon taff , merthyr tydfil. form number of ticket stock used rsp 4599/206.



valleys student railcard

introduced @ same time valleys senior railcard, costs £9.00 1 year, , gives 26% discount on standard day , cheap day single , return fares in area, , 10% discount on 7 day season tickets. originally, cheap day returns , season ticket received discount. demise of cornish railcard means railcard anywhere in great britain offers discount on season tickets (although new deal photocards do). ticket stock bears form number rsp 4599/216.


the maesteg line excluded routes on railcards valid; anomaly removed on 5 january 2003.
