the mscp runs summer , winter schools @ university of melbourne during university vacation breaks. courses in schools consist of 5 two-hour lectures on week , not involve assessment or require demonstrated prior knowledge of topic in question. mscp not-for-profit organisation, registration costs minimal.
mscp courses seek detailed , scholarly encounter philosophical thinkers , themes. in particular, courses attempt promote constructive ways of engaging philosophy not represented in contemporary academic discourse. courses aim locate philosophy in context of historical , cultural milieu, encouraging lively, academic debate, emphasising interdisciplinary aspects of philosophy. classes informal strive rigorous , faithful philosophers , texts being studied.
past courses have covered philosophers such hegel, nietzsche, heidegger, wittgenstein, lyotard, derrida, deleuze , badiou. series of courses has run on several summer , winter schools entitled mscp history of philosophy series assessed philosophy pre-socratics modern empiricism. similar courses, treating theme rather particular philosopher or text, have included 3 centuries of aphorism , democracy, elites , violence .
