there number of demonstrations during 2004 democratic national convention. protesters included members of bl(a)ck tea society, group of self-described anarchists, opposed war in iraq. approximately 400 members of bl(a)ck tea society marched through boston s financial district , headed toward fleet center, set fire effigy showed george bush on 1 side , john kerry on other.
that evening group of peace activists held peaceful rally few hundred feet fleetcenter. local boston politicians joined presidential candidate dennis kucinich , long-time activist , california state senator tom hayden in call end occupation of , remove u.s. troops iraq , bring in international peacekeeping force. also, hayden , kucinich called on anti-war democrats support john kerry against george bush in general election.
the largest protest held on sunday evening before convention set start. estimated 2,000 anti-war members marched @ same time approximately 1,000 anti-abortion activists, , 2 groups crossed paths en route convention center. following day, anti-abortion group had permit revoked protest outside of kerry family home. challenged decision, upheld federal judge, sided secret service in determining protest close kerry s home, potentially endangering presidential candidate.
