in 1968, series 70 engine option added. engine had higher compression ratio, higher-lift camshaft, , single cd zenith-stromberg carburettor, boosted output 69 bhp (51 kw; 70 ps). power-assisted front disc brakes standard when engine used, , automatic transmission option no longer available standard 56 bhp (42 kw; 57 ps) engine. sports model released in october 1967, called brabham torana, named in honour of well-respected australian race-car driver, sir jack brabham. brabham torana s engine based on series 70, twin cd zenith-stromberg carburettors sports air cleaners fitted. low-restriction exhaust system, boosted power 79 bhp (59 kw; 80 ps). brabham included wider wheel rims , red-wall tyres, power-assisted front disc brakes standard, different badging, , black body accents. automatic transmission not available on model.
in september 1968, 69 torana released, called hb series ii. featured locally made body panels, replacing imported bodies of original hb. model lineup included four-door sedan developed in australia, four-door bodies shipped uk constructed , sold viva. collapsible steering column fitted, new recessed instrument cluster, new indicator switch, , new steering wheel borrowed contemporary full-sized holden. these local components replaced imported vauxhall items. consequence of using these local components loss of stalk-operated headlight dip switch , horn. dip switch ended on floor, case full-sized holdens. dual-circuit brakes standard on models, though power-assisted front disc brakes still optional standard 56 bhp (42 kw; 57 ps) engine. brabham torana still available, in two-door form only. included sports steering wheel similar contemporary holden monaro gts, full instrumentation, different badging, , different black accenting. hb torana continued until late 1969. total production 16,318 imported panels , 20,243 locally manufactured bodies.
