after soviet union s collapse in 1991, aerospace industry of russia in catastrophic turmoil. excessive amount of imports , highly protective tariffs devastated manufacturing industry, both aerospace , automotive industry. military aircraft industry able benefit improving export possibilities profiting large storage of components , parts soviet times, while civilian aircraft industry suffered losses , production of civilian aircraft diminished. example, in 1990, russia produced 715 aircraft. 8 years later, number decreased 661 56 aircraft. in 2000, 4 civilian aircraft produced. in order solve this, president of russia @ time, boris yeltsin, decided consolidation necessary, , created vpk-mapo (military industrial complex – moscow aircraft production association), includes companies such mikoyan. consolidation wasn t successful , mapo later merged sukhoi.


first years

the uac created in february 20, 2006 russian president vladimir putin in presidential decree no. 140 merging shares ilyushin, irkut, mikoyan, sukhoi, tupolev, , yakovlev new joint-stock company named ojsc united aircraft corporation in order optimize production , minimize losses. uac stated reason why corporation created protect , develop scientific , industrial potential of russian aircraft industry, security , defense of state, , concentration of intellectual, industrial, , financial resources implement long-term aviation programs. united aircraft corporation started out producing tupolev tu-154 careless , tupolev tu-204, ilyushin il-86 camber , ilyushin il-96, ilyushin il-114, , of mikoyan, sukhoi, yakovlev, tupolev, , ilyushin military aircraft; created prior corporation s creation.

in october 2009, uac signed joint venture hindustan aeronautics limited (hal) of india named multirole transport aircraft limited (mtal) 2 companies cooperating on making aircraft both of russian armed forces, indian armed forces, , friendly third-party countries. 1 of projects being developed joint-venture ilyushin il-214 multirole transport aircraft (mta) intended replace india s antonov an-32 transport fleet. il-214 perform regular transport duties deploying paratroopers. aircraft planned revealed in 2017 , planned introduced in 2018.

in october 27, 2010, uac , ukrainian state-owned aircraft corporation, antonov, signed joint venture contract, llc uac - antonov, in capital city of ukraine, kiev. purpose of joint-venture deal coordination of antonov , uac on purchasing spare parts, production, marketing , sales, servicing , joint creation of new modifications of antonov aircraft, according defense-aerospace.


in 2013, 9 aircraft repair plants of ministry of defense transferred under ownership of uac. result, in 2014, serviceability of russian air force increased 40% 65%.


as result of russian intervention in ukraine in 2014, sanctions put against russia, , because uac part of russia s aerospace , defense industry, sanctioned european union. though, since sanctions did not include airliner industry of uac, such sukhoi superjet 100, exports of regional jet western nations , economical activities of superjet international not affected.


in april 2015, company changed full name public joint-stock company (pjsc) united aircraft corporation (uac). in 2011-2015, uac companies delivered russian defence ministry more 200 aircraft.


in september 18, 2015, according resolution of ukrainian government, ukrainian state-owned corporation, antonov, exiting llc uac - antonov joint venture between 2 companies.


in january 13, 2016, india s hal announced not involved in ilyushin il-214 mta project anymore, , ilyushin have work on project alone. project designated ilyushin il-214 mta taken out since project no longer under multirole transport aircraft limited joint-venture.


in june 25, 2016, uac , chinese aircraft corporation, comac, signed joint venture contract, china-russia aircraft international co, ltd. (craic), based in shanghai. according uac, craic responsible product , technology development, manufacturing, marketing, sales , customer service, consulting, program management , other related field. 2 companies cooperating in creating new generation long range wide body commercial aircraft , take charge of operation under joint-venture. aircraft, named craic cr-929, formerly c929, compete airbus a330neo , boeing 787; challenging airbus-boeing duopoly.
