as long ago 3000 b.c., ancient egyptians constructed crude toothbrushes twigs , leaves clean teeth. similarly, other cultures such greeks, romans, arabs , indians cleaned teeth twigs. fray 1 end of twig penetrate between teeth more effectively.


modern day toothbrushing regular habit became prevalent in europe after contact muslim world in africa , asia people s teeth remained healthy old age. advised scientifically supported practice toward end of 17th century. modern toothbrush developed in england in 1780. while languishing in jail, william addis decided drill holes sheep s tibia, , pulled through bristles of boar hair. while credited discovery of modern toothbrush, similar design has since been discovered in china 1400. in united states, although toothbrushes available @ end of 19th century, practice did not become widespread until after second world war, when u.s. soldiers continued toothbrushing had been required during military service.
