Classification Germ cell tumor
1 classification
1.1 germinomatous
1.2 nongerminomatous
1.3 mixed
classification
germ cell tumors classified histology, regardless of location in body.
germ cell tumors broadly divided in 2 classes:
the germinomatous or seminomatous germ cell tumors (ggct, sgct) include germinoma , synonyms dysgerminoma , seminoma.
the nongerminomatous or nonseminomatous germ cell tumors (nggct, nsgct) include other germ cell tumors, pure , mixed.
the 2 classes reflect important clinical difference. compared germinomatous tumors, nongerminomatous tumors tend grow faster, have earlier mean age @ time of diagnosis (~25 years versus ~35 years, in case of testicular cancers), , have lower 5 year survival rate. survival rate germinomatous tumors higher in part because these tumors sensitive radiation, , respond chemotherapy. prognosis nongerminomatous tumours has improved dramatically, however, due use of platinum-based chemotherapy regimens.

mixed
mixed germ cell tumors occur in many forms. among these, common form teratoma endodermal sinus tumor.
teratocarcinoma refers germ cell tumor mixture of teratoma embryonal carcinoma, or choriocarcinoma, or both. kind of mixed germ cell tumor may known teratoma elements of embryonal carcinoma or choriocarcinoma, or ignoring teratoma component , referring malignant component: embryonal carcinoma and/or choriocarcinoma. can present in anterior mediastinum.
