news of moody’s large revival campaigns in great britain 1873 through 1875 traveled sweden, making mr. moody household name in homes of many mission friends. moody’s sermons published in sweden distributed in books, newspapers, , colporteur tracts, , led spread of sweden’s moody fever 1875 through 1880.


he preached last sermon on november 16, 1899, in kansas city, missouri. becoming ill, returned home train northfield. during preceding several months, friends had observed had added 30 pounds (14 kg) ample frame. although illness never diagnosed, has been speculated suffered congestive heart failure. died on december 22, 1899, surrounded family. installed leader of chicago bible institute, r. a. torrey succeeded moody president. ten years after moody s death chicago avenue church renamed moody church in honor, , chicago bible institute likewise renamed moody bible institute.
