dev assassinated along husband of adopted daughter pakistan army personnel involved in 1971 dhaka university massacre on black night of 25 march. @ time, dev residing in university quarter near jagannath hall adopted daughter rokeya sultana , husband mohammad ali. @ around 11 p.m., residents of house awakened sound of gunfire army raided campus. rokeya remarked later, bullets hitting house hailstorm. family took shelter in small room , kept awake whole night. in morning of 26 group of soldiers came door. started banging on door shouted in urdu, son of infidel, open door. dev proceeded open door, door collapsed on him. upon entering house, 1 of soldiers hit on head rifle , 1 shot him on chest. dev feebly asked, want here, son? in response, soldiers shot few more rounds @ him. 2 bullets hit him in head , other bullets hit him in chest. dev died immediately. soldiers beat rokeya mercilessly , killed husband. plunged bayonet professor s lifeless body. later took dead bodies grounds of jagannath hall bodies of other victims of massacre dumped.
