emu park s european history dates 1860s when jardine family established cattle grazing property south of current town, @ zilzie, anagram of lizzie jardine.
emu park township established in 1870s when several rockhampton families built seaside holiday houses on hills overlooking 2 beaches feature of town - fisherman s beach , pine beach. emu park connected rockhampton train in 1888 , became popular, select, seaside resort time on. branch yeppoon, further north opened in 1910.
hewittville post office opened on 12 november 1883 (a receiving office had been open 1876) , renamed emu park in 1890. 1920s town boasted 2 large hotels, cinema, court house, state primary school, public library, shops , many guest houses visitors. small pier opened mrs bruce, wife of prime minister, stanley bruce, in 1926 , bell park, shady park on shores of fisherman s beach established in 1930s.
the railway link rockhampton closed in 1960s due declining passenger numbers , line yeppoon no longer exists. remnants of woppaburra people evicted homeland in greater , south keppel islands lived on in both emu park , yeppoon.
