yu-gi-oh! duel monsters, known outside japan yu-gi-oh!, second adaptation of series produced nihon ad systems , studio gallop. loosely adapting manga chapter sixty onwards, series features several differences manga , toei-produced series , largely focuses around game of duel monsters, tying in real life yu-gi-oh! trading card game. series aired in japan on tv tokyo between april 18, 2000 , september 29, 2004, running 224 episodes. remastered version of series, focusing on specific duels, began airing in japan february 7, 2015.


in 2001, 4kids entertainment obtained merchandising , television rights series nihon ad systems, producing english-language version aired in north america on kids wb! between september 29, 2001 , june 10, 2006, releasing in various countries outside japan. adaptation received many changes japanese version tailor international audiences. these include different names many characters , monsters, changes appearance of cards differentiate them real-life counterparts , various cuts , edits pertaining violence, death, , religious references make series suitable children.


an album containing tracks english dub music entitled yu-gi-oh! music duel released on october 29, 2002 on dreamworks records on audio cd , compact cassette.


an uncut version, featuring all-new english dub track , original japanese audio, began release in october 2004, in association funimation entertainment. 3 volumes, comprising first 9 episodes, ever released. 4kids later release uncut japanese episodes on youtube, in may 2009, forced stop due legal issues adk , yugi s japanese voice actor, shunsuke kazama. meanwhile, separate english adaptation, produced a.s.n., aired in south east asia. names americanized, series setting , original music remained intact.


on march 24, 2011, tv tokyo , nihon ad systems filed joint lawsuit against 4kids, accusing them of underpayments concerning yu-gi-oh! franchises , allegedly conspiring funimation, , have allegedly terminated licensing deal them. led 4kids filing protection under chapter 11 of u.s. bankruptcy code. although 4kids had managed win case in march 2012, ended selling rights franchise, among other assets, konami. konami distributes series , spin-offs, in addition producing english dubs through renamed subsidiary, 4k media inc.


a complete dvd boxset, including english episodes , bonds beyond time movie, released on july 15, 2014 via amazon.


on july 11, 2015, 4k media began releasing subtitled episodes crunchyroll streaming site monthly.
