dianthus monspessulanus hemicryptophyte scapose plant reaching on average 30–60 centimetres (12–24 in) of height. stem green, erect, glabrous , branched on top, leaves opposite, simple, linear , sessile, more or less erect , flexuous, sheath embracing stem. 3 millimetres (0.12 in) wide , 10 centimetres (3.9 in) long. calyx green cylindrical tube 2 centimetres (0.79 in) long, reddish teeth. flowers hermaphrodite, single or gathered in scapes of 3–5 flowers, 10 stamens. have 5 pink or white petals, 10–15 millimetres (0.39–0.59 in) long, fringed margins (hence common name). flowering period extends may through august. fruits capsules few seeds.
