the northern terminus of sr 273 located @ sr 260 within fort apache indian reservation. sr 273 designated in 1955 sr 73 (this section part of sr 260) southeast , northeast sr 73, spur southeast. on august 16, 1991, section spur northeast renumbered sr 261. sr 273 rerouted on sr 273 spur, eliminating duplication of mileposts. heads southeast intersection , passes along east side of sunrise lake. highway curves towards east south of sunrise lake heads towards white mountain reservoir. highway leaves indian reservation approaches reservoir. curves towards southeast passes reservoir. curves towards south intersects national forest service road 87. highway continues towards south before curving towards east junction sr 261. highway curves towards south @ intersection. continues south southern terminus @ big lake.


sr 273 travels through sparsely populated areas , not pass through cities or towns. serves access road sunrise ski resort, 1 of few ski resorts in arizona, general access white mountains. provides access big lake. segment between sunrise , sr 261 formerly unpaved gravel road.
