sal (shorea robusta) important tree in area , seems have preference rocky soil there. although sal deciduous tree , sheds leaves in summer, forest undergrowth evergreen, has such trees mangoes, jamun, jackfruit, , piar. other important trees mahua, kusum, tilai, harin hara (armossa rohitulea), gular (fiscus glomerata), asan. singhbhum forests best in kolhan area in south-west of district. lives of ho people have long been intertwined sal forests , there strong resentment against efforts of timber merchants replace sal forests teak plantations.
